Reconstruction work is carried out for the future Moscow Central Diameter launch in Moscow

The MCD-3 will create new routes for citizens of the capital and cities near Moscow: passengers will be able to reach the railway stations - Leningradsky and Kazansky and pass through the diameter. For this purpose, the Mitkovskaya connecting branch is being reconstructed - it will connect Leningradsky and Kazansky directions in one route. At the same time, the large-scale reconstruction is being carried out at the Kursky railway station to launch the MCD-4.

A double-track railway overpass at the future Nikolayevkastation with retaining walls across the main tracks of the Yaroslavl direction is now under construction on the Mitkovskaya branch. The total area is more than 1.6 thousand square metres. A new railway overpass through RusakovskayaStreet is also under construction, and a pedestrian tunnel is being extended. The new main track which will take commuter trains from the Leningradsky Railway Station is under construction. Preparations are also underway to electrify the Mitkovskaya connecting line.

By the end of 2023 – beginning of the 2024, the diameter trains will connect Zelenograd, Khimki and Ramenskoye with more than 20 Moscow districts and provide convenient railway transport for residents. Passenger traffic on this diameter will be about 455,000 people a day.

«The creation of new transport arteries, such as the MCD-3, is not only additional opportunities for our passengers, but also a huge positive impact on the entire transport system of the city. The more convenient and fast urban transport options we create, the more often citizens give up their private cars. Unloading motorways is one of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyaninpriority and the new diameters launch is an important part of this work”, – noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

By the end of 2023 - the beginning of 2024, the MCD-4 will be launched: trains also will stop at Kursky railway station. In addition, by 2030, it is expected that the passenger traffic will increase to 156,000 passengers at the station.

That is why it is necessary to create capacity reserves for decades to come and carry out large-scale reconstruction of the passenger infrastructure. For this purpose, most of the long-distance trains were transferred to the new Vostochny Station last year.

Some of the work has already been done: a comfortable passenger area with convenient navigation and a food zone was built in the existing underground vestibule.

New platforms are now being built and outdated ones are being replaced by modern platforms with full-length canopies. Work in this part is more than half done. Three underground crossings will also be widened. A new entrance hall is being built on the side of the Arma Business Centre, as well as a renovated underground tunnel with access to it. Passengers will be able to use the modern infrastructure with lifts and escalators. When all works are completed, the existing underground interchange with the metro Line 5 and Line 3 will become more convenient. There are also plans to make an underground interchange to Chkalovskaya station of Line 10.

Extensive works are now being carried out to develop the two prospective MCD-3 and MCD-4. In order to launch them, Moscow is undertaking extensive works to develop track infrastructure and construct new railway stations. After their launch, there will be 138 MCD stations on the overground metro network. The prospective MCD-3 Leningrad-Kazansky will create a new 85 km railway line, which will connect Zelenogradand Ramenskoye. There will be 41 stations on the new diameter. 14 of them are interchanging stations with 21 interchange options to the metro, the MCC and other diameter stations. The MCD-4 Kievsko-Gorkovsky will run through Moscow from west to east. It will be the longest transport route in Moscow, its length will be 86 km. With the MCD-4 launch, the railway network will include 37 stations and after 2025, the number of stations will increase to 39.
