The third and fourth Moscow Central Diameter will appear in 42 districts of Moscow

At the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, two new overground metro lines will pass through 42 Moscow districts, making public transport even more accessible for their citizens.

Passengers will be able to build new through routes across the capital and to the suburbs. Most importantly, passengers will be able to save on fare with favorable tariffs and free interchanges on the Moscow Metro and the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) using the Troika card.

For example, it will become more convenient to get to Ostankino TV Center (the largest broadcasting complex in Europe) — the future MCD-3 station of the same name will be nearby. New route to the Moscow International Business Centrewill also appear. There will be Testovskaya MCD-4 station, where passenger can make interchange to the MCD-1, MCC and 3 metro stations.

Two new diameters will also improve transport accessibility for residents of the Khimki, Ramenskoye, Reutov and Aprelevka areas near Moscow, as well as the Zheleznodorozhny district of Balashikha. With the new overground metro, they will get a new impetus for the further development.

After the MCD-3 and MCD-4 launch, the overground metro network will increase by 78 stations. It is expected that the third and fourth diameters together will carry more than 1 million passengers a day: the MCD-3 — about 455 thousand passengers a day and the MCD-4 — about 577 thousand passengers a day (that is the number of passengers who are carried by the first two diameters per day).

«On the instructions of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we are continuing the development of the Moscow Central Diameters. The MCD-3 and MCD-4 will create entirely new routes, which have not existed before. The residents of more than 40 districts of Moscow and the Moscow region - where convenient, high-capacity transport is especially important - will have an overground metro station within walking distance. The launch of two more diameters will provide even more passengers with comfortable public transport with updated rolling stock, predictable schedule and favorable tariffs», – noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

Extensive works are now being carried out to develop the two prospective MCD-3 and MCD-4. In order to launch them, Moscow is undertaking extensive works to develop track infrastructure and construct new railway stations. After their launch, there will be 138 MCD stations on the overground metro network. The prospective MCD-3 Leningrad-Kazansky will create a new 85 km railway line, which will connect Zelenograd and Ramenskoye. There will be 41 stations on the new diameter. 14 of them are interchanging stations with 21 interchange options to the metro, the MCC and other diameter stations. The MCD-4 Kievsko-Gorkovsky will run through Moscow from west to east. It will be the longest transport route in Moscow, its length will be 86 km. With the MCD-4 launch, the railway network will include 37 stations and after 2025, the number of stations will increase to 39.
