The Moscow transport framework is expanding at a fast pace. Currently, the Moscow Metro is being built at the highest rate in its history. Since 2010, the length of the metro has increased by 1.5 times and now it is a branched network with 250 stations, each of which is popular among Moscow citizens. The Moscow Metro development goes in parallel with the new roads and junctions’ emergence, which constantly improves the situation on Moscow roads.
The Big Circle Line (BCL) was the largest project of the Russian metro construction, implemented with the direct Moscow Mayor participation. The circle line will have 31 stations. The full launch of the BCL will provide simplified transportation for 3.3 million Moscow residents living in 34 districts. The BСL will be the world longest circle metro line. Its length will be 70 km, which is 3.5 times longer than the existing Line 5 (Circle Line) and a quarter longer than the Beijing Circle Line (Line 10) - the current world leader in length.
«On the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin instructions, we do more than just open new stations – creating convenient transport hubs for passengers. In general, after the BCL launch completion, trips of 3.3 million citizens will become faster. At present, the BCL opened stations are used by more than 500 thousand people daily», - said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
Now there are already 22 opened BCL stations, 10 of which were launched in December last year. The daily passenger traffic is more than 500,000 people. Once the line is completed, it is projected that about 1 million people will use it daily.
The BCL is one of the priority lines of the Moscow Metro at the moment. Thanks to its development, public transport passengers will be able to build new and more convenient routes. After its launch, passengers will be able to make interchanges to more than 40 other metro lines stations, to the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and all existing and prospective stations of the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD).
Within a large-scale expansion of the Moscow Metro network in the Russian capital, construction will be started soon on new radial metro lines that will be merged with the BCL. First of all, these are such lines as the Biryulyovskaya and Troitskaya metro lines. The length of the Biryulyovskaya metro line at the first stage will be 22.2 km, 10 stations and depots will be built. The line will pass through 7 districts, improving transport services to the south and southeast of Moscow.
«After it will be opened, about 280 thousand residents of nearby districts will have metro within walking distance for the first time. New interchanges from Biryulyovskaya metro line to Line 2, the BCL, the MCC, the future MCD-5 and the future Troitskaya line will be available. With the metro line launch, some passengers will switch from private cars to public transport", – said Maxim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
The Troitskaya metro line is in an active construction phase. It will run from the MCC to Troitsky District. Its length will be more than 40 km. The new line will connect 17 metro stations, which will pass through South and Southwest districts of Moscow, as well as Troitsk and Novomoskovsk (New Moscow). The line will have interchanges to the MCC, the Moscow Metro (Line 1, Line 6, the BCL and the future Biryulevskaya Line). The launch of the traffic is expected to significantly improve the transport situation, residents of Troitsk and Desenovskoye settlements will be able to save up to one hour daily.
«The New Moscow development is one of Moscow Mayorpriority projects. More than 600 thousand people live here and according to the forecasts, the population of Troitsk and Novomoskovsk administrative districts will exceed 1 million in the coming years. Therefore, the residents need their own metro line, which will provide high-speed transport for the new fast-growing areas», – noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
Moreover, as part of passenger services development, the Moscow Department of Transport is conducting a pilot project to improve line navigation in metro cars. The metro Line 5 has already launched the first innovative Moskva-2020 train with improved linear navigation.
«On the instructions of the Moscow Mayor, we continue to develop passenger services for the comfort travelling. Today, the first Moskva-2020 train with the improved linear navigation in cars was launched on the metro Line 5. It shows the travel time to the next station and information about exits and interchanges- it will be much easier for passengers to navigate in metro. Soon, all Moskva-2020 trains will be equipped with improved navigation», – said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
The innovative Moskva-2020 train is the Moscow most modern metro train, surpassing most foreign counterparts in many features. The new Moskva-2020 train won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 for the best design. The international jury unanimously gave it the highest score in the Trains and Planescategory.
